Ministry Update 10/17

A Devotion from Jay McKenney

Ambassadors
If you know me well, you know that I have a special relationship with Coldstone Ice Cream. The store calls to me… it beckons me… and I usually answer.

The Coldstone by my house, in addition to having EXCELLENT ice cream, has terrific customer service as well. This makes the whole experience terrific!!!

The other day I went into the store and no one was behind the counter. There sat all the wonderful ice cream, and the pictures of the different concoctions, and the smells, but no one to assist me. I said "Hello" a number of times. I tried to make loud noises. I opened and shut the door over and over again to make that little beeping sound. Nothing.

Finally, some guy I had never seen before came out from the back, barely looked at me and muttered "What do you want?"

It completely changed my Coldstone experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going back, but I hope he is not there and someone that is actually happy to see me again takes his place!

In Worship and Creative Arts, we are each part of a team that strives to put out a really nice “product”. You sing well, you play well, you give of your time, energy, and talent, and the result we hope for is a very pleasing experience. But it is only half of the experience for our community who gather with us on Sunday’s. The other half is a result of the way we treat them. We are not representing some product like ice cream (as good as that is), we’re representing something more amazing… we're representing Jesus Christ our Risen Lord and Savior!

It is because of this we want all who serve in our ministry to extend themselves before and after services (whether or not you’re serving that weekend). We can do this simply by greeting people, shaking their hands, smiling, reaching out and caring that they are there. It’s a part of choosing to be real and representing Jesus; we are trying to be the hands and feet of Christ to all those who come through our doors.

We Are God's Ambassadors
2 Corinthians 5:11, 18-20
11 Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others.
God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too. ….. 18 And all of this is a gift from God,
who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.
19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them.
And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
20 So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.
