Budget Reduction Update
I want to update you on the decisions which were reached by Session this week, specifically in regards to the Worship and Creative Arts team. More information about the effect on all ministries and staff will be presented by Pastor Ron to the congregation this Sunday.
In our update last week we let you know about the process that Session as well as the Management, HR and Ad-hoc teams were following. I want you to know that none of this was easy, that there was a huge amount of prayerful consideration, and that many possibilities were explored to reach the final decisions. We can be very grateful for God’s guidance and His provision of wisdom and leadership as these teams worked together.
The staff from the W&CA ministry who are affected are Randy Rock, Kent Factora and Jill Hofer. Randy and Kent will be laid off Tuesday, March 10th. Jill’s hours will be reduced from 30 to 20 each week. I will write more next week about the changes for Jill and the effects of other changes.
For today, I wanted to share part of an email Janet Fraser sent to the Production Team; I couldn’t agree more:
Both Randy and Kent are key contributors on our team.
Randy and I have served together on staff for several years and he is quite literally one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever known. He brought both his breadth and depth of experience and a servant’s heart to his role at Sunset. I will personally feel a great loss when he is no longer quietly making things work and thinking ahead for me and explaining technical things in a language I can understand. You can email Randy a note at randyrock@sunsetpres.org.
Kent's work as our Media Director stands for itself. You can check out some of his work at http://www.youtube.com/user/WorshipatSunset. If you haven't met Kent you are missing out. He has a huge heart for God, his church and for Sunset to be a light in our community. Fortunately for us, Kent and his fiance' Holly call Sunset their church home so they will be around. Kent runs his own video production company http://www.shaka-brah.com/ which he had put somewhat on the back burner to do ministry at Sunset, so here's my shameless plug for any of you looking for excellent video production/story telling. You can email Kent a note at kentfactora@sunsetpres.org.
Please know that our Worship ministry staff see one of our primary roles as that of equippers of the servants who choose to serve in this ministry. We remain committed to serving you well so that you can serve and worship him with excellence.
My goal over the next days/weeks/months is to continue praying and assessing with our teams what these changes will mean for the W&CA ministry. Thank you for the ways you continue to offer your best so that we honor God and serve our community. There is never a dull moment in life with God and right now is no exception!

Easter is coming fast…
It’s April 12th and the planning has already begun. We’re excited about the services and about what God will do in the hearts of those who come that day! The service times for this year are:
- Saturday, April 11th, 4 & 6:30pm
- Sunday, April 12th, 9 & 11am (no Sunday evening service)
Except for the 6:30pm service on Saturday, all services will be a blend of the style you would normally find in our 9 & 11am services. The 6:30pm service on Saturday will be an "11am" style.
Jay is still looking for short prayers that you have written (or will write) to God. He’d like authentic and heartfelt prayers that come from a place of desperation and longing for deliverance; or, they reflect how God met you in that place of desperation and share the joy and the hope that He brought. We want the community that comes that day to hear real life and see that other people (even people in church) know what it means to be desperate and that there’s hope in a God who meets us in the midst of desperation.
If you are interested in serving in this way, please shoot Jay or Janet an email jaymckenney@sunsetpres.org or janetfraser@sunsetpres.org.
