Worship Update 6/12

From Jay

Sunset Seasons of Service (or, Sunset Seasons of Worship J)

This morning I sat in my office about to go through the motions of the tasks at hand. God stopped me, and forced me to look at Him for a while. It came in the form of this link to a short video called “Awe Factor”. (When the page opens, click on the Videos option and choose “the awe factor of God”.)

Just watching and hearing about God, a snapshot into His bigness and I was moved to worship Him in my heart. It was a moment I was desperately in need of and a moment for which I was so grateful.

In thinking through what to write about this week, I thought it was a good time to write about Sunset’s Seasons of Service. It seemed appropriate to let you know about all these wonderful areas to serve in and to make an impact in our community as well as the lives of hundreds of people. And the opportunities are wonderful. But I realize now I want to let you know what I believe at my heart level. I believe serving is really worshiping… and worshiping is really about responding to God’s greatness. We have to start there, because then our response comes naturally, freely, and overflowing.

So I guess what I’m challenging you to right now is make sure you are stopping to look at God and His greatness, whatever/however that happens for you. You know how He has wired you, you know what speaks beauty to you and where you see or hear Him the clearest. Go there… do whatever that is… immerse yourself in Him. And when your soul is moved, when He sets things in context, when He sets your heart on fire and you think you are going to explode if you don’t tell someone or do something, then check out this link to find out about more ways Sunset is reaching out this summer as a family and in response to our God and Creator and Savior.

An excerpt from News & Views by Pastor Ron

We said our official public goodbye to Scott Resnick last Saturday. Scott was flying to his uncle's memorial service in Phoenix, Arizona when his plane crashed late Friday night May 22. Scott left Holly and four children - Kiel (12), Reilly (10), Ireland (9), and Kelton (5) - his parents Rudi and Shelley Resnick and his brothers John and Kevin. I learned something at Scott's memorial service. I always learn something at memorial services. It became very apparent to all of us that Scott loved life. He loved Christ, his family, flying, racing cars, snowboarding, skateboarding, and fixing things. Scott inspired me. He reminded me God wants us to live life with gusto. "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." (Ecclesiastes 9:10) So, live in honor of Scott. Live your life with passion this week. Whatever you do, do it well and do it all out - and don't forget to pray for Holly and the children, Rudi and Shelley, and John and Kevin.

There are a few things I want to tell you about:

If you have a COLLEGE student, or you are college age,
we have a group that meets Tuesday evenings at 7 pm at Quinn’s Prime and Vine, in the Forest Heights Village Center, 2041 NW Miller Road. There's live music, food, and Bible study. Join them!

FATHER'S DAY is June 21. We are inviting all men who have motorcycles to ride their cycle to worship and park in the North parking lot-along with a lot of other great vehicles!

This Sunday I am beginning a 3-week series of MESSAGES ON PRAYER. So much would go better for us if we prayed more. So many more good things would happen in this world if we prayed more. I will be talking about the importance of prayer and how to pray more effectively. Don't miss this Sunday. It is going to be very important.

Opportunities To Serve

Worship Choir
Summer worship choir begins June 28. Please come even if you haven't been in choir this year, we would LOVE to have you. We will sing the worship songs in both services with a short Thursday night rehearsal.

SEASONS OF SERVICE
At Sunset we meet in a building on Cornell Road. But perhaps the truest expression of the church is when it goes outside the walls and becomes knee deep in community involvement. Seasons of Service is a cohesive strategy of community outreach that allows individuals, care groups, small groups, ministry teams and families to serve.
Sunset’s strategy of outreach focus’s our efforts in three areas:
· Serving our schools
· Serving the hungry and poor
· Ministering to the multi-ethnic
Seasons of Service is divided into spring, summer, and Fall/Winter serving opportunities. We are kicking off our Summer Season of Service. Click here for more information about opportunities to serve. Click here to volunteer for a Seasons of Service event.

Safety at Sunset
One of the “holes” left after our recent layoffs is the need for a representative from W&CA on the Safety Team. We’d like to fill that hole with a volunteer. Safety on our campus is a responsibility of the Operations team, but they need input and support from all the other teams to handle the variety of needs at Sunset. Those needs range from maintaining a safe work environment for our staff to handling an emergency that might occur on our campus.

If you’re interested in representing W&CA and being a part of Sunset’s Safety Team, please contact carriepeeples@sunsetpres.org. The Safety Team meets once a month on the fourth Thursday from 10 to 11am; however, they may be open to changing the time.

Production/Tech Team Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for people to fill the following roles:
· Service Director
· Lighting
· Graphics
· FOH Camera Op Week
· Message Slide Designer

In addition we have a new volunteer role: Video production. We'd like to find some video editors in our midst. Are you or do you know someone who could do simple projects for us? (i.e. this week, we have white text (provided) on black screen and need someone to edit.) The level of the projects will depend on who we discover. The content is generally available a couple weeks in advance of the deadline. If you have this skill or know someone at Sunset who does, please email me janetfraser@sunsetpres.org.
