We've delayed posting this until after Christmas... due to the secrecy of the project
You asked for examples of how people are changing their Christmas spending habits or doing Christmas differently this year for the "conspiracy" movement.
Bruce and I had already decided that this year we would simplify Christmas around the Rupprecht house even before the advent conspiracy campaign began. In October I began to make grocery shopping bags that will be given to the women on our gift list. Even while grocery shopping, there can be an element of style, right?
Just before Thanksgiving I was going through a garden magazine and spotted a picture that jumped out at me as a gift idea for our daughter, so Bruce and I went to Home Depot (high on our list of favorite stores) and bought a few cedar fence boards to make a bird house. Here's the finished project, and I know our daughter will be both surprised and "tickeled pink" to receive this hand-made gift. She's dreaming of getting into her first home, and this gift represents our contribution toward her first home's yard along with a beautiful japanese maple tree I potted up for her four years ago from a small seedling discovered in our garden. That tree is now about 4 feet tall and ready to be gifted.
The bird house cost around $17.00 and 4 evenings of work. The 4 year-old tree cost nothing. The designer grocery bag cost about $15.00 each plus 3 hours of sewing time. The joy of giving these hand-made items: priceless !
And of course this is all a secret that everyone must keep - because it's not Christmas Day yet !
