Devo from Jay
Some things I’ve learned
I have now been at Sunset as long as the average time a worship pastor makes it at a church. 5 years had been this invisible bar in my head at times, wanting to at least make it to the average.
I am listening to Cold Play right now which always puts me in a reflective mood, so here are some reflections, some things that I have learned in the last 5 years…
I have learned that trust and love is crucial in healthy working relationships. (Yes, feel free to say no duh!)
I have learned that showing up can be more important than having a plan.
I have learned that some people need to be communicated with and loved in different ways than others.
To ignore a problem usually means to ignore a person.
Laughter has a place at work. Even in church.
There is a very high level of responsibility that comes with working at a church. And it comes in ways I hadn’t even thought of.
Each year has its own unique challenges and victories, and the variety is staggering.
There is no sugar substitute for the Holy Spirit.
People are amazing and constantly surprise me.
Communication is very hard work and yesterday’s success doesn’t count today.
When I overeat and don’t exercise, I gain weight. Wait! I didn’t learn that at church, I learned that at Cold Stone.
Thanks for reading!
Together We Serve
Dozens and dozens of Bandito Taco’s consumed.
Around 100 people attended.
8 ministry specific breakouts.
4 plus hours of training and fellowship.
The chance to honor, invest in, and thank our amazing ministry team here at Sunset?
Priceless.
Truly for our first ministry workshop the turnout was amazing. Thank you to all who made Sunday so special by showing up and engaging together in the afternoon’s activities.
We began our time by watching an amazing video called Celebrating What’s Right with the World. That title was so appropriate because God has blessed our ministry so much! We’re blessed with just amazing people who give of their time and talent and love week after week in so many different ways.
The breakouts included everything from How to Breath Better When You Sing to Soundboard 101 and everything in between.
There are a number of ways we will be looking to improve for the next time we do this; but one of the best things we could do, if you weren’t there this time, is to make sure you get to participate next time! Stay tuned for a date (probably in the fall) when we have our next ministry workshop day.
Special Message from Holly Resnick
To my dear worship Family,
I have been composing this letter in my head for a long time now. I am sorry it’s taken forever to get it onto paper! You see, to find the right words, or figure out how to express what I feel for all of you is hard to do, it’s just more than words can say. But, I’ll do my best!
I am so incredibly grateful and so blessed by all of you! The love, prayer and outpouring of kindness and generosity you have shown are simply unbelievable. We feel so held, so supported and cared for by our church and specifically, all of you, that we are just overwhelmed.
There were times when I wondered if God was listening to my prayers… if he was really “there.” I would ask him to comfort me, be near me, to take care of me. And then I would wait for him. I needed to know he was a real God.
And then… Janet would show up to just sit with me while I cried. Jay would come over to wash my car or mow my lawn. Nick Lind and Tres Cozad would come over and take my kids to the park. A meal would come. A card would be delivered with words of love and compassion and comfort. A gift card to STARBUCKS would come in the mail! And I realized, I was waiting for God to knock at the door, and he was sending me His people. God was listening, God was answering my prayers, God was comforting me… through all of you!
I know now, first hand, what it looks like to see the “hands and feet” of God work to help those in need. The kids and I have seen God’s love through the people, the community, and our family at Sunset Church.
Thank you so much, for everything you have done and are doing for our family. We still need your prayers, your love, your “hands and feet” so much. You keep us going and we are eternally grateful.
The kids and I prayed over every meal, every gift, every donation that came to us, that God would bless the giver back! We hope you’ve seen that blessing in some way. Please know that it meant the world to us, and we can’t say a strong enough THANK YOU to cover how we feel.
The kids and I love you, and are so thankful for each and every one of you!
God bless you richly!
Holly

Christ In The Passover
March 23, 6:30pm (NOTE NEW TIME), Student Center
Join us in celebrating the ancient Festival of Redemption and Christ as the Lamb of God. In this
visual demonstration, you'll get to see a table set with traditional Passover items. Using Scripture, you'll
walk through a Jewish Passover Seder, weaving the story of the Exodus together with the life, death and resurrection of Christ.
The Way To The Cross – The Experience
April 1, 10 am - 9 pm, April 2 11-8pm
Meditating on the events of Jesus' final days and His resurrection can be profound. The challenge for
most of us is shutting out the noise and distractions of everyday life long enough to quiet our souls and
listen to the Spirit of God. So we invite you to join us for an interactive meditation on the “Way to the Cross” in stations. Plan 30-40 minutes to complete the experience. We pray that the "Way to the Cross" experience will take you through the sorrows and despair of Holy Week so that we, too, might emerge victorious in the glory of the Resurrection.
